Crif Dogs – East Village, NYC

I have been hearing about Crif Dogs in New York City’s East Village for several years now and have walked by countless times without indulging, but when Anthony Bourdain stopped by for a dog on his show “The Layover,” it became a “must stop” during our visit to NYC a few weeks ago. Since their signature deep-fried dogs could only be made more decadent when wrapped in bacon, Alex and I went for the Tsunami (bacon wrapped house dog topped with teriyaki, pineapple and green onions), and in an ode to our roots, the Garden State (Taylor ham wrapped house dog topped with chopped pepperoncinis, American cheese and mustard). Delicious. Deep-frying the dogs achieved that signature “snap” when you bite in, and the toppings were right on. Not much else to say, go give it a try…and if you need more convincing, watch the video below, it gives a short overview of Crif Dogs’ history and how they build their dogs.
