“Big Bun” – El Paso, Texas

If no-frills, unpretentious dining and good burgers are your thing, then get yourself downtown to Big Bun. You do not walk into Big Bun for a relaxing meal, or for the atmosphere or service – you go there to dominate an oversized burger and waddle out before your food coma kicks in. Big Bun opened in downtown El Paso in 1952 and has cranked out the city’s favorite classic burger for more than 60 years. Since their move from Stanton Street to East Mills, Big Bun has added breakfast and retained some of the favorite Mexican dishes from Alberto’s Mexican Grill which occupied the Mills location before Big Bun. With nearly 20 burger options and a list of tempting breakfast burritos, you’re sure to find something to perk up your taste buds. If you’re feeling particularly ambitious, I recommend the Monster Burger with double meat, bacon, cheese, avocado, mushroom, roasted green chili and 2 hotdogs. If that sounds daunting, I recommend the Bacon Cheese Burger with pineapple – just plain delicious! This El Paso institution may have another 60 years in it, but don’t risk it, go now and you’ll be happy you did.
